VIRTUAL CLASSEs

Virtual classes are offered in a wide range of music topics and are suitable for students of all ages who wish to study remotely. 

Each virtual class provides an in-depth examination of a specific topic. Examples of previous classes include a retrospective of Sondheim musicals, the history of hip-hop, and conversations with opera heroines.

Summer 2023 Four-Week Virtual Classes

From Opera to Broadway 
Teacher: Michelle Trovato

Exploring how classic operas became classic Broadway shows through reinvention of these familiar stories! We will compare and contrast the story and musical themes in the following works: Carmen to Carmen Jones, Romeo and Juliette to West Side Story, La Boheme to Rent, and Madama Butterfly to Miss Saigon.

Country Music: Highlighting Different Artists that Define the Genre

Country music has been around for many decades. We will focus on different artists that define the genre, such as Dolly Parton, Johnny Cash, and Willie Nelson. Students will listen to various songs and discuss the characteristics of country music, and how over the years the sound has changed.  We will explore the lyrics (background and meaning of the words) and structure of the music.
