The Filomen Sessions: Live at The Grammy Townhouse

On Friday, September 25, The Recording Academy’s Accessibility + Disability Network hosted FMDG at The GRAMMY Townhouse for a truly special event. Guests enjoyed stellar musical performances and panel discussions with first-hand insights into the Music School. WQXR’s Elliott Forrest moderated the conversations, joining FMDG’s Executive Director, Dr. Rob Derke, to host the event.

The evening included performances by three students in our youth program, Hao Wen Deng, Mathew Vargas, and Lana Mamatkazina. Hao Wen played piano pieces by Chopin and Liszt, while Lana sang “L.O.V.E.” and “At Last” (the latter included Mathew accompanying on electric guitar). Elizabeth Goodman, an adult student, sang “The Girl from Ipanema” and “Landslide” wonderfully as well. We’re also grateful to Jenny Xu, an FMDG teacher, for accompanying our singers on piano.

It was an amazing evening, generating a lot of support and momentum for our mission!
