The Fil at the Met – Celebrating Influential Women in the Arts

The FMDG Music School returned to Grace Rainey Rogers Auditorium at the Metropolitan Museum of Art on Saturday, April 26, for its annual Fil at the Met concert.  The theme for 2025 was Celebrating Influential Women in the Arts.  The concert included art from the Met Museum’s collection, music performances by the Fil’s student soloists and ensembles, and verbal descriptions by the Met Museum’s Access team.

This past Spring semester saw both youth and adult students engaged in classes and workshops to celebrate the theme.  The Fil’s faculty presented a 10 week online class series on women composers and musicians throughout history. The classes explored the lives and works of musicians from Nadia Boulanger to Carole King. The Met Museum’s Access team also hosted workshops for students to explore the art and tradition of quilt making.   Students had fun assembling individual quilt patches using tactile materials.  A collective quilt by students, faculty, and staff was revealed at the concert.
