This fall, the FMDG Music School community performed across New York City, from the bustling Queens Night Market to The Metropolitan Museum of Art to Symphony Space. Across five events, our students brought their unique artistry and holiday spirit to audiences throughout the city.
The fall season opened on October 4 with a performance at the Queens Night Market. The Fil showcased talented musicians in a concert celebrating diversity, equity, and inclusion, inviting a wide public audience to enjoy live music alongside the market’s international food vendors.
The Fil’s Adult Chorus, newly led by Cyrus von Hochstetter and Nora Bartosik, returned to the Metropolitan Museum of Art for our annual tradition of caroling in two extraordinary settings. The morning performance at The Met Cloisters filled the medieval galleries with sacred and secular holiday songs. In the afternoon, the Adult Chorus traveled downtown to Fifth Avenue to sing amongst the The Metropolitan Museum of Art’s annual Christmas tree installation. Afterward, the chorus performed in the community room at the Andrew Heiskell Library, marking the third and final stop of their caroling tour.
The following evening, our adult students took center stage for the Fall 2025 Adult Student Recital. Held in the newly renovated Warburg Lounge at 92Y, the concert featured a wide range of solo, collaborative, and ensemble performances, reflecting both the diversity of our students and the breadth of musical paths they pursue.
Next was a festive evening at VISIONS, where The Fil presented a special concert that brought together the adult chorus alongside solo and collaborative performances, offering a mix of seasonal favorites.
The fall season of recitals concluded with the Fall 2025 CMPYP Student Recital, featuring solo and ensemble performances by our youth students. This concert celebrated the achievements and dedication of our youngest musicians, offering families, friends, and community members a glimpse into their developing artistry and musical growth.
Our students and alumni also took part in Harmony Beyond Sight, a special program presented by the Bella Music Foundation Youth Orchestra in celebration of UNESCO’s 20th Anniversary of the Convention on the Protection and Promotion of the Diversity of Cultural Expressions. Performers included internationally acclaimed jazz pianist and FMDG alumnus Matthew Whitaker and current CMPYP students Haowen Deng and Iolanta Mamatkazina.
Together, these four events offered a rich portrait of the FMDG Music School this fall—committed to musical excellence, open to the public, and deeply engaged with the cultural life of the city. We thank all of our performers, audiences, and partner venues for making this season such a memorable one, and we look forward to welcoming you to our upcoming spring concerts.
