The Fall 2024 semester at the FMDG Music School is in full swing. The month of September saw new students, new CMPYP classes, and even two community performances.
On Saturday, September 7 the CMPYP (Comprehensive Program for Young People) welcomed both new and returning students for another exciting semester of music making. Every Saturday students come to 92Y for individual lessons, group classes and ensembles. Two new classes that students are participating in this semester include a drum circle, and a sound mapping class using ZOOM audio recorders. CMPYP students benefit not only from individual instrument study but also ensemble experiences and a focus on music literacy through braille and large print music. To find out more about the CMPYP visit the Youth Classes page.
Four fantastic FMDG students gave stellar performances at The Museum of Broadway on Monday, September 23. Accompanied by faculty pianist, Cyrus von Hochstetter, students Maya Graves, Matthew Herrera, Iolanta Mamatkazina and Elizabeth Tarr each sang a song, from a Broadway musical to support a terrific cause: raising global awareness for the need of basic assistive technology. The event was held in conjunction with the recent United Nations General Assembly. The event was sponsored by Unlock The Everyday and ATScale, the Global Partnership for Assistive Technology.
On Saturday, September 28 the FMDG Music School and the New York Police Department (NYPD) Jazz Band presented a fun collaboration at the Queens Night Market. Despite the rain both the NYPD band and FMDG students created “Music in Harmony” with a variety of songs and arrangements to entertain market goers. Congratulations to all adult and youth students who performed.
